I just enjoyed a play called 8 which was streamed live on YouTube and which will be made available there soon
{http://youtu.be/qlUG8F9uVgM has the play starting about 1/2 hour in, but that first half-hour is also worthwhile} if it's not there already. The list of celebrities who participated is incredible: George Clooney and Brad Pitt lead an unreal all-star cast.
The play uses actual court transcripts from a California trial where 2 couples whose marriages would have been illegal if prop 8 was allowed to stand sued the state to have it stricken as unconstitutional. The videos of the actual trial proceedings exist but they have been embargoed from public viewing because the defendants (Mormon church and other backers of prop 8) won some kind of injunction to avoid embarrassment. So a playwrite used the Freedom of Information Act to get the transcripts and distill them into this concise play with a bit of a side story about the plaintiffs. It felt like about an hour and 15 minutes.
Look it's not as entertaining as The Artist, but I think it's very important that we are able to witness what went on. You'll feel historic if you watch it.
Cheers,
-Ron
