Default MGM Bill S-1777 voted down

The Joint Committee on the Judiciary voted to reject the Massachusetts MGM Bill (S. 1777). The vote took place during a meeting held at 1:00 pm this afternoon 3/16/2010 in room 222 of the State House.

To be honest, this was not totally unexpected. The bill was audacious in its scope. And many bills are reintroduced repeatedly each year before they leave committee. While we were giving testimony that day on MGM, other people were giving testimony on a medical marijuana bill, I wonder how they made out. I also wonder if we will get any feedback about why it was rejected.

Perhaps there are other initiatives we can take to get us closer to our goal. Thoughts that come to mind are attacking funding for circumcisions from medicare and private insurance, and enhancing consent and mandatory education for expecting parents on the subject.

My testimony has been posted here, and on the MGMbill.org website. I am still trying to get a copy of the video of my spoken testimony. I managed to shoot video of every person testifying but myself

This was a valiant effort. It was also very successful in raising public awareness.

We must all remember we knew this was coming.

Let us be glad in the fact that such a bill even got heard, and not let up.

The brave people who were successful in getting this bill to comittee and speaking in its favor should be commended.

Well done, everyone!

Let's keep working to make equal rights for boys and men a reality!

Does anyone know what the vote was? It would be interesting to know if it was even close.

It was a Judiciary Committee decision. There was no vote that was recognizable as such. See http://news.bostonherald.com/news/po...icleid=1240311

I congratulate those who spoke for the Bill. While it was not likely to pass, it will have helped to raise the awareness of those listening. They might now have some doubts where there were none before. They might just discuss it with someone else. Like the battle against slavery, it takes some time to penetrate cultural blindness. The fact that we can listen to the speakers on YouTube from anywhere in the world makes what you did even more powerful.

Again, keep speaking out. You will never know what influence you have.
Well done.
